Why good basketball shoes matter

So your kids have just started their fourth new hobby leaving those tennis rackets and football shoes to collect dust in the ever-expanding ‘hobbies’ cupboard. Next on the hit list is basketball, so before they switch to another sport you figure they can have a few practices in their regular runners. While it may be tempting to do so, the risk of injury should be seriously taken into consideration.  Basketball shoes, like all sports specific shoes, are designed first and foremost to prevent injury. In a sport in which agility and jumping is key, ankle protection becomes increasingly important. In fact, basketball shoes are one of the most important shoes on the market.The hard surface of basketball courts also means basketball shoe manufacturers had to respond by creating a complex cushioning system to reduce impact stress.
