Hoka Speedgoat 7 Trail Running Shoes
The HOKA Speedgoat 7 is the latest update to HOKA's long-running max-cushion trail workhorse. Built for technical terrain, long distances and everyday trail adventures, this version introduces a supercritical EVA midsole, a refined heel and upper construction, and a subtly updated Vibram Megagrip outsole. Available in standard and 2E widths.
What's New in the Speedgoat 7
The Speedgoat 7 is a significant update over the Speedgoat 6. Three changes stand out:
1. Supercritical EVA midsole. The Speedgoat 7 moves to a supercritical EVA foam, produced by infusing EVA with nitrogen under high pressure. The result is a lighter, more resilient and more energetic ride than the traditional EVA used in earlier versions, while keeping the protective stack height the Speedgoat is known for.
2. Redesigned heel geometry. HOKA has moved away from the flared heel of previous versions in favour of a more traditional shape. The heel collar is refined for a more secure, padded fit around the rear of the foot.
3. Updated upper and outsole detailing. A lightweight RPET woven upper improves breathability and durability. A new gaiter attachment and reflective detailing support ultra use and low-light running. The Vibram Megagrip outsole retains 5mm lugs but with a refined lug layout for improved grip across mixed terrain.
Speedgoat 7 vs Speedgoat 6 at a glance
The Speedgoat 6 used traditional EVA with a firmer, more grounded feel. The Speedgoat 7's supercritical EVA gives a softer, more energetic ride with a touch more bounce, without losing the protective character the line is known for. The 7 is also the first version in the line to introduce reflective detailing and a gaiter attachment as standard. Fit runs marginally snugger through the forefoot — runners who like more room up front may prefer the 2E width.

Who is the Speedgoat 7 for?
The Speedgoat 7 is built for trail runners who want a cushioned, protective ride that still feels responsive. It's well suited to ultra distances, technical terrain and anyone who prefers a max-cushion trail shoe they can use across daily training and race day. Runners coming from the Speedgoat 5 or 6 will notice a more energetic midsole feel and a more traditional heel shape. Runners new to the Speedgoat line will find one of the most capable all-round trail shoes on the market.
Should you upgrade from the Speedgoat 6?
If you liked the Speedgoat 6 but wanted a softer, more lively ride and a more secure heel, the Speedgoat 7 is a clear step forward. If you're new to the line, the 7 is the best entry point yet. The 2E width is available for runners who prefer a roomier forefoot.
