Skipping Rope: If someone told you that you could do a full-body workout without leaving your house with the use of one simple piece of equipment, you would probably say they were crazy. That same person would tell you to buy a skipping rope. Just 10 minutes equates to a 30-40 minute run. It’s a no brainer really.

Resistance Band: Imagine carrying the equivalent of up to 5kg’s of weights in your back pocket, neatly folded into one little pack. Then it’s time to get acquainted with resistance bands.  While they come in a variety of shapes and sizes, resistance bands are a cost effective way to exercise, providing a whole body workout. They are also perfect for travel and easy to use. Simply log onto YouTube for endless inspirational videos and how-to videos.

Exercise Ball: Exercise balls are not only an effective way to tone the entire body and build on your core strength, but also provide a suitable exercise alternative for those suffering from back problems. Exercise balls will provide added support to the lower back during exercises such as sit-ups and squats.

Dumbbells are easy to use, provide a wide range of exercises and are a cost effective way to introduce exercise at home without having to set up and entire home gym. Dumbbell exercises are also a lot more joint friendly than their barbell equivalent. Tone your arms while watching your favourite TV show. A reality TV fix sans the guilt.

Ankle weights will optimize any workout, helping you increase endurance and tone those legs. While you should avoid wearing them every time you workout, introducing ankle weights to your sessions a few times a week will help you see results sooner. Strap them on and do some straight leg raises while catching up on your morning news or during your next walk.
