Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17 Running Shoe Review

By RunDNA
3 min read

Josh and Adam review the flashy new Brooks Adrenaline GTS 17, a high performance and technical addition to the Brooks running shoe line up.

This limited edition is cosmetically out of this world, with an eye-catching newspaper and crossword monochrome graphic.

It's a high mileage shoe that's excellent for frequent runners and caters well to overpronators and mild overpronators. It features a Progressive Diagonal Rollbar, DNA cushioning system and standard widths.

Check out the full review with transcript below.

Josh: Welcome to Sportitude. My name’s Josh and I’m here with Adam. I’m here to talk to you about the very exciting Brooks Adrenaline 17 limited edition.

This little guy has got all you want cosmetically out of a shoe but before we get to those beautiful cosmetics we are going to touch on the technical features.

Over the years the Brooks Adrenaline has been by far the most consistent shoe in the marketplace. It caters for a overpronator and even a mild overpronator. With technical features on the medial side of the shoe they’ve got the Progressive Diagonal Rollbar. It's a fancy way of saying we’ve got triple dual density foam on the medial side. This essentially cradles your foot as it goes through the midstance phase.

You won’t see that midsole compressing, it stays nice and stable. Also touching on the cushioning system it’s got the DNA system. You’re looking at a high mileage shoe.

Someone who’s pushing serious k's would be looking at this shoe. So running 2 ,3 or 4 times a week for pushing serious numbers this is definitely a shoe to consider. Cosmetically it’s pretty flash.

Adam: It’s a flash shoe, it’s a really flash shoe.

Josh: It’s outrageous!

Adam: They’ve done really well. Changing that foam at the back, the DNA foam, just made that initial last a bit softer. It’s just a huge improvement and would you say deep in the heel as well?

Josh: Ever so slightly. We’ve found it's just a little bit deeper through the heel counter but you probably wouldn’t notice if you put a 16 on in comparison to this, but a few runners that have put it on have said, “Yes, it’s a little bit deeper through the heel counter”.

Just touching on that heel strike zone you were talking about there Adam, it does have a softer footbed. There has been feedback over the years, talking the minority here that have said, “The Adrenaline feels a little bit firm for me, it’s a nice shoe but it’s a bit firm”.

This has certainly softened up but they haven’t sacrificed mileage.

Adam: They’ve done wonders here, haven’t they?

Josh: They have. Now newspaper release. I haven’t actually read the upper of the shoe but there’s a couple of cracking stories here. We’ve got the Brooklyn Queen Bay Bridge.

Adam: Comes with a crossword inside.

Josh: Yep, so they’ve really put a lot of thought in.

Adam: Absolutely.

Josh: For those runners that want to stop and have a coffee break, just take your shoe off, do a crossword, put it back on and keep running.

Adam: Anyone who gets 35 down can have a free pair of shoes from Sportitude.

Josh: Don’t say that.

Adam: It starts with H and ends in one.

Josh: OK! Well, Adam’s promise went well.

I do want to quickly touch on one thing before we go. Being a limited edition shoe it only comes in the one width.

For the guys it’s a D width, for the ladies, it's a B. For the true Adrenaline runners out there, if you are a 2A, I’m truly sorry. Just the standard width is available.

Fantastic shoe. I am going to go to the shelves to try one on right now and go for a trot. See you next time and happy running.

Adam: Enjoy!
