What’s the Triumph 23 all about?

Saucony’s Triumph series has always held its place as the brand’s max-cushioned daily trainer—but it hasn’t always stayed in one lane. The Triumph 20 and 21 struck a great balance between plush comfort and surprising versatility. They were soft enough for recovery days but still held up nicely when you wanted to push the pace a little. That blend made them a go-to option for runners looking for comfort without completely sacrificing responsiveness.

Then came the Triumph 22, which leaned fully into the comfort zone. It introduced a softer, more cushioned ride that clearly carved out space between the Triumph and faster options like the Endorphin Speed. It was a welcome shift for easy runs and long cruising efforts, but it did come at the cost of a little versatility—the shoe felt heavier, and less lively when the pace picked up.

With the Triumph 23, Saucony has pulled things back into balance. It’s now the lightest Triumph to date, combining the plush comfort of the 22 with a bit more snap and energy—reminiscent of what we liked in the 20 and 21. The result is a strong update that keeps the premium comfort, but adds a much-needed spark.

There are two key updates in the Triumph 23

1) Thick slab of PWRRUN PB, lighter & livelier

The core of the Triumph 23 is still PWRRUN PB—the same high-performance PEBA-based foam seen in Saucony’s speedier shoes. But this time, the formulation has been tweaked to be softer and more responsive. That’s not an easy combo to pull off, but it works here. The shoe still delivers that plush underfoot feel, but there’s more bounce and energy return with each step.

This new formula also drops weight from the shoe, helping it feel more nimble and less bulky than its predecessor. Adding to the improved feel is the introduction of Saucony’s new SRS (Super Responsive Sockliner). It’s not your typical insole, it adds a noticeably softer step-in feel and an extra pop of rebound that helps the shoe come to life right from the first run.

2) Redesigned XT-900 carbon rubber outsole

Saucony has also reworked the outsole, moving away from a single piece of rubber that spanned heel to toe. Instead, the Triumph 23 features segmented XT-900 carbon rubber coverage. That segmentation adds more flexibility to the ride, something some runners will love, particularly if they enjoy a shoe that flows more naturally with their stride.

This change also helps shave weight and contributes to a smoother heel-to-toe transition. For runners who found the Triumph 22 a little blocky or stiff, this update makes for a more fluid experience on the run.

Georgia's thoughts

I’ve been using the Saucony Triumph 23 for my Sunday long runs over the past few months as I ease back into training after a femoral bone injury. I was very lucky to receive a sample pair back in March and I’ve been absolutely loving them! The plush cushioning offers a soft, protective ride without being overly squishy, which is something I need to be mindful of. There’s just enough responsiveness to keep things feeling smooth and efficient. I really like how the midsole provides a balance of comfort and energy return, which is important as I gradually build back mileage.

The upper on the Triumph 23 is incredibly comfortable and the fit is spot on, for me. The laces are a nice quality and stay secure throughout my runs, which definitely adds to the overall premium feel of the shoe. Saucony is releasing some great colourways in the women’s line, which is a great bonus, as I will need to replace my current pair towards the end of the year. The Triumph 23 has become a very reliable shoe during my recovery phase and they will remain a staple in my rotation moving forward.

Our first thoughts

The Triumph 23 is a strong return to balance for Saucony’s max-cushion daily trainer. It keeps the cushy, comfort-first experience of the Triumph 22, but lightens things up and brings back a bit of responsiveness that was missing last time around.

It’s a great option for runners who want a plush ride for easy days, long runs and recovery miles, but who still appreciate a bit of pep when they want to pick up the pace. If you liked the softness of the Triumph 22 but missed the versatility of earlier versions, this update brings the best of both worlds together in a lighter, smoother, and more refined package.
