Now that you have ditched your office chair it’s time to enjoy the added benefits that come with a standing desk. If you haven’t invested in a standing desk yet, we have to ask why? It has long been established that sitting for extended periods of time can wreak havoc with our health increasing the risk of cancer and diabetes amongst other inactivity-related diseases. Moreover, while sitting at your desk for extended periods of time is shortening your lifespan, it is expanding your waistline.

Standing for at least 2 hours during your workday can help burn extra calories over your basal metabolic rate. For an average 60kg person, standing as opposed to sitting can burn an extra 30 calories an hour. Over an 8 hour day, that is an extra 240 calories burnt a day. Add that to your weekly schedule, and that is an extra 1200 calories burnt by doing absolutely nothing.
