New Balance SuperComp Rebel

What Is the New Balance SuperComp Rebel v1?

The New Balance SuperComp Rebel v1 is a lightweight plated super trainer designed for faster daily running, speed sessions and longer workouts. It combines a highly cushioned Infinion foam midsole with a more forgiving carbon-infused Pebax plate, creating an energetic ride without the aggressive feel of a dedicated racing shoe.

Although it shares the Rebel name, the SC Rebel v1 should not be confused with the lightweight FuelCell Rebel. This is a higher-stacked, plated performance trainer built to provide more cushioning and protection over longer distances. It sits between a conventional daily trainer and the race-focused SuperComp Elite, making it suitable for the training sessions that prepare you for race day.

With a 40mm heel, 36mm forefoot and 4mm drop, the SC Rebel delivers substantial cushioning while retaining a quick and lightweight feel. Its rockered geometry helps the shoe move smoothly from landing to toe-off, while the FantomFit upper provides lightweight security around the midfoot and heel.

How the SC Rebel v1 Replaces the SuperComp Trainer

The SC Rebel v1 takes over the role previously occupied by the New Balance SuperComp Trainer, but it is more than a simple name change.

Weight: The SC Rebel has a noticeably lighter and more agile construction. It feels less bulky underfoot than the SuperComp Trainer, making it better suited to tempo running, progression runs and sessions where you regularly change pace.

Midsole: Infinion foam replaces the previous FuelCell-based setup. The ATPU compound provides soft, protective cushioning while retaining the rebound needed for faster running and repeated training.

Plate: A carbon-infused Pebax plate provides propulsion without the rigid sensation associated with many carbon racing shoes. Its more forgiving construction allows the foam to compress naturally and makes the shoe comfortable across a wider range of speeds.

Ride: The SC Rebel feels smoother, lighter and easier to turn over. The SuperComp Trainer was known for its high level of cushioning, while the SC Rebel adds a more refined and performance-focused character.

Versatility: The lower weight and less demanding plate make the SC Rebel suitable for everything from steady aerobic kilometres to marathon-paced workouts. It remains protective enough for longer runs but feels more natural when the pace increases.

The result is a plated training shoe that continues the SuperComp Trainer’s long-distance capabilities while delivering a quicker and more adaptable ride.

Sizing and Fit

The New Balance SuperComp Rebel v1 provides a lightweight performance fit with a secure hold through the midfoot and heel. FantomFit construction adds structure without relying on heavy overlays, helping the upper keep the foot connected to the platform through corners and faster changes of pace.

The breathable synthetic mesh has enough flexibility to remain comfortable during longer runs without feeling loose or unstructured. The overall fit is intended to balance security for speed sessions with the comfort required for extended training.

Most runners should begin with their usual New Balance running shoe size. Runners with broader feet or those who prefer additional room around the forefoot should check the available width options before ordering.

How the SuperComp Rebel v1 Compares

SuperComp Rebel v1 vs SuperComp Trainer

The SC Rebel v1 is lighter, more responsive and easier to use at faster speeds than the SuperComp Trainer. Both shoes provide substantial cushioning for long-distance training, but the SC Rebel feels more agile and less cumbersome underfoot.

Runners who enjoyed the protection of the SuperComp Trainer but wanted a quicker and more versatile ride are likely to prefer the SC Rebel. It remains capable of handling long runs while feeling more comfortable during tempo sessions, marathon-paced efforts and progression runs.

SuperComp Rebel v1 vs SuperComp Elite v6

The SC Rebel is the more durable and approachable training option, while the SuperComp Elite v6 is the more aggressive race-day shoe.

The Elite uses a stiffer carbon-fibre plate and is designed to maximise propulsion at racing speeds. The Rebel’s carbon-infused Pebax plate is more flexible, allowing it to feel natural during daily training and at slower paces.

For runners building towards a half marathon or marathon, the SC Rebel can handle much of the weekly training load, while the SC Elite is better reserved for key sessions and race day.

SuperComp Rebel v1 vs FuelCell Rebel

Despite the shared Rebel name, these shoes serve different purposes.

The FuelCell Rebel is a lower-stacked, non-plated lightweight trainer suited to short speed sessions, daily running and runners who prefer a flexible, natural ride. The SuperComp Rebel offers considerably more cushioning, a propulsion plate and greater protection for longer distances.

Choose the FuelCell Rebel for lightweight simplicity and flexibility. Choose the SuperComp Rebel for plated propulsion, marathon training and longer workouts where additional cushioning is valuable.

Who Should Buy the SuperComp Rebel v1?

The SuperComp Rebel v1 is best suited to runners who want a plated training shoe that can handle more than just their fastest sessions. It provides the cushioning needed for long runs and marathon preparation while remaining light and responsive enough for tempo runs, intervals and progression sessions.

It is a strong option for runners who:

• Want one performance trainer for both long runs and faster workouts.
• Prefer a softer and more forgiving plate than a dedicated carbon racing shoe.
• Are preparing for a half marathon or marathon.
• Found the SuperComp Trainer protective but heavier than they preferred.
• Want a plated shoe that still feels comfortable at steady training speeds.
• Need a durable training companion for a more aggressive race-day shoe.

Runners who prefer a firm, highly structured ride or want maximum propulsion exclusively for racing may be better suited to the SuperComp Elite. Those looking for a simpler, flexible and lower-stacked shoe may prefer the standard FuelCell Rebel.
