Introducing NNormal: The Brand Behind the Mountains

Introducing NNormal: Performance, Durability and Purpose
Few athletes have influenced modern trail running quite like Kilian Jornet. Across decades of racing, training and exploring some of the world's most demanding terrain, his experience has shaped a deep understanding of what running equipment needs to deliver when conditions become unpredictable.
In 2022, that experience became the foundation of NNormal, a trail and mountain running brand co-founded by Jornet and Spanish footwear specialists Camper. Together, they set out to develop technical footwear and apparel with a particular emphasis on functionality, durability and long-term performance.
Now joining the RunDNA collection, NNormal introduces a distinctive approach to trail running equipment, bringing together athlete-led development, considered design and a growing range of footwear and apparel for the mountains.
Born Between Norway and Mallorca
NNormal's origins are closely connected to two places: the rugged mountains of Norway and the Mediterranean island of Mallorca. This relationship is reflected in the brand's name, bringing together elements of both locations and the different perspectives of its founders.
Kilian Jornet's career spans trail running, skyrunning, ultramarathons and mountaineering, with victories at some of the world's most prestigious mountain races. Decades spent moving through technical terrain, changing weather and demanding environments have given him an exceptional understanding of the demands placed on running equipment.
Alongside Jornet is Camper, the Mallorca-based footwear company founded in 1975, with a shoemaking heritage extending back generations. Its experience in footwear design, manufacturing and material development brings a different kind of expertise to the partnership, providing the technical foundation to turn an athlete's ideas into functional products.
Designed in Mallorca and tested in Norway, NNormal's development process draws on both environments. The partnership connects first-hand experience in the mountains with established footwear knowledge, creating a brand shaped as much by the conditions in which its products are used as by the design process itself.
Performance Designed to Last
One of NNormal's defining characteristics is the emphasis it places on product longevity. Its philosophy, Replace Less. Do More., reflects a commitment to creating equipment that continues to perform over an extended period of use.
Durability is particularly relevant in trail running, where abrasive surfaces, uneven terrain, mud and changing conditions place considerable demands on footwear. Developing a shoe that performs well, when new, is one challenge; maintaining its intended characteristics as the kilometres accumulate is another.
NNormal considers this throughout the development process, from upper construction and outsole materials to repairability and opportunities to extend a product's usable lifespan. The brand has introduced initiatives involving footwear repairs, resoling and material recovery, alongside research designed to better understand how its products hold up over time.
In 2026, NNormal published durability research involving 172 Kjerag 02 testers, reporting an estimated average lifespan of 1,096 kilometres under its study conditions. Although individual results will vary depending on terrain, running mechanics and use, the research demonstrates an effort to measure durability rather than simply present it as a product claim.
This approach gives NNormal an interesting position within performance running. Its objective is not to compromise technical capability in pursuit of durability, but to consider how the two can work together to create equipment that runners can continue relying on over the long term.
The NNormal Footwear Collection
NNormal's footwear collection brings together several distinct approaches to trail running, with models designed around different terrain, running intensities and levels of underfoot protection.
At the performance-focused end of the range, the Kjerag family prioritises lightweight efficiency, precision and technical grip. The Tomir 02 offers a more protective option for longer efforts and varied terrain, while the Cadí broadens the collection with an emphasis on everyday comfort and accessibility.
Although each shoe shares the brand's broader design philosophy, the differences in construction, cushioning and intended use create a collection suited to a wide range of trail running experiences.
Cadí - Everyday Trail Running
The NNormal Cadí introduces a more accessible approach to the collection, designed around everyday comfort, protection and versatility. With a more accommodating fit, supercritical midsole and Vibram Megagrip outsole, the Cadí is intended for runners spending time on less technical trails or looking for a dependable option for regular off-road kilometres.
Its construction prioritises a protective, stable underfoot experience rather than the more specialised performance characteristics of the Kjerag family. Although positioned as a comfort-focused model, independent testing has described the Cadí as relatively structured and firm underfoot, making it particularly interesting for runners who prefer a supportive, consistent platform. Its versatility also extends beyond running, offering an option for walking and longer outdoor adventures. The Cadi is also availble in the Cadi GTX variation for additional weather protection and
Kjerag 02 - Precision and Performance
The NNormal Kjerag 02 represents the performance-focused end of the collection, developed for runners prioritising speed, responsiveness and control across technical terrain. Building on the original Kjerag, the second generation introduces an updated EExpure Plus midsole, increased cushioning and revised geometry designed to create a smoother, more responsive ride without sacrificing the direct feel that characterised its predecessor.
A lightweight Matryx upper provides a secure fit, while the Vibram Megagrip Litebase outsole is designed to maintain traction across varied trail surfaces. The result is a shoe focused on efficient movement and technical precision, particularly suited to faster training efforts, racing and challenging singletrack where grip and confident foot placement are essential.
Kjerag Brut - Grip for Demanding Conditions
Taking the performance characteristics of the Kjerag range in a more specialised direction, the NNormal Kjerag Brut is developed for running on soft, muddy and technically demanding terrain. Its construction places greater emphasis on maintaining traction and managing moisture when conditions become unpredictable.
The Brut's more aggressive outsole configuration and drainage-focused construction distinguish it from the Kjerag 02, giving runners an option better suited to wet ground, mud and loose surfaces. It fills a more specific role within the collection, offering technical trail runners a shoe designed around the challenges of difficult underfoot conditions rather than general-purpose versatility.
Technical Apparel for the Mountains
NNormal's approach to running equipment extends beyond footwear into a collection of technical apparel developed around the same emphasis on purposeful design and functionality.
The clothing range arriving at RunDNA includes Race 02 running tops, a men's tank and women's running shorts, alongside technical rain and wind jackets designed for changing outdoor conditions.
Across its performance apparel, NNormal focuses on lightweight construction, breathability and freedom of movement. Its running tops and shorts are developed to remain comfortable during sustained activity, with technical materials and considered construction helping runners manage heat, moisture and movement across different running intensities.
The outerwear collection introduces additional protection for more demanding environments. The Trail Rain Jacket 02 provides a weather-resistant layer for wet conditions, while the Trail Wind Jacket offers lightweight wind protection when temperatures and exposure change.
For trail runners, these details become increasingly important as distances increase and routes move into more exposed environments. Having clothing that manages moisture, allows unrestricted movement and provides appropriate protection can make a significant difference to comfort and preparation.
Together, the footwear and apparel offer a considered technical collection for runners looking to equip themselves for the varied demands of the trails.
